Dinosaur exploration
The rugged Bunurong coastline is home to many beautiful secluded beach sites perfect for beach play and rock pool exploring but The Caves has even more secrets to tell. It’s 8 minutes from Inverloch town centre, heading west towards Cape Paterson, you turn left into the carpark just after Flat Rocks. What are the secrets held there? More than 15,000 dinosaur teeth and fossils have been found on the beach and rocks, perhaps you will be the explorer who finds the next one.
Plan ahead so you arrive at low tide, when the rock platforms are exposed and you are able to hunt for the dinosaur footprint just 100m north north-east of where the stairs and beach meet. Allow plenty of time to explore the site, read about the dinosaurs and immerse yourself in the beauty of today whilst imagining the going ons of the past.
To take your dinosaur exploration even further why not join one of the Dinosaur Discovery activities being run by the South Gippsland Conservation Society these school holidays. Tickets available through South Gippsland Conservation Society– click here for more details. The Dinosaur dreaming experience is extremely popular as our presenter’s knowledge and enthusiasm for dinosaurs is infectious so we advise you check dates available and book early.

Shell museum and Bunurong Environment Centre
The Inverloch shell museum is a hidden gem of discovery that you really must explore with the kids. It’s inside the Bunurong Environment centre in the heart of Inverloch so just a short stroll from Rainbow Park, coffee shops and as with many great seashells it’s just beside the sea shore. Noted as being one of the world’s best displays of shells with over 6,000 specimens on display, including many local varieties. The kids will love looking into the windows of the shell houses and admiring the colours and sizes of all the different varieties but we expect the highlight will be the touch table. Kids are encouraged to hold and feel the shells and raise them to their ears to hear the ocean. There is a small fee to enter the Shell Museum so take a few gold coins if you have them, but you won’t be disappointed with this slow paced sensory experience for the kids.
Once inside the Bunurong Environment Centre you will also want to fossick through the gift shop and visit the discovery room, you may even want to find out more about the school holiday activities program including rockpool rambles, art from nature, wildlife at night and many more.

Beach Play
A “fun things to do in Inverloch for kids” list would not be complete without pointing out that the diverse coastline of Inverloch and surrounds means there is a fabulous mix of beach experiences. Our advice is to visit a different one each day! Eagle’s Nest, Shack Bay and Flat rocks all offer plenty of adventure as you climb stairs to access the beaches or ramble over rocks to explore the exposed pools at low tide. You may want to stay close to town and dig holes, make sandcastles or just do cartwheels at the Inverloch Foreshore or Town Beach, you may want to hit the waves or bomb into the lagoon surfside or just splash in the shallows at Anderson Inlet, either way go to the beach may be the only fun activity needed on the list!

There are plenty of milkshake/ ice cream/ bakery treat options as well to keep the kids busy whilst mums and dads meander through fabulous coastal fashion stores like Mookah and Sunni Rae.
Indoor plant loving parents can also pile the kids in the car and head 5km out of town to Greener Life Inverloch where the kids can be entertained with the trampoline and giant jenga or get their hands dirty potting up a dinosaur planter as a memento of their trip to Inverloch.
